Pueblan Milk Snake

Our Pueblan Milk Snake

Scovill Zoo has one pueblan milk snake. All pueblan milk snakes are nonvenomous, including the zoo's named Spaz. Spaz came from a former zoo keeper, Desiree Hunter, who got her from Blackburn University.

Pueblan Milk Snake Size

The pueblan milk snake ranges in size. It can be anywhere from 3 to 3 feet long. Spaz is still growing, as she is only 2 feet.

Pueblan Milk Snake Life Span

The pueblan milk snake lives an average of 15-20 years both in the wild and in captivity. Spaz is approximately 15 years old.

Pueblan Milk Snake Housing

In captivity, the pueblan milk snake is in a 3'x 2' 40 gallon aquarium. However, due to the fact that the pueblan milk snake is native to Mexico, in the wild, they live in dry, semi-desert conditions.

Pueblan Milk Snake Food

All pueblan milk snakes are carnivores. Young pueblan milk snakes eat slugs, insects, and crickets, but mature milk snakes eat lizards and small mammals, like birds, forgs, fish, and other snakes. Spaz is fed mice. The pueblan milk snake cannot be handled until 48 hours after feeding, as the food has to digest, or the snake will spit up the food. The pueblan milk snake also needs access to water.

Pueblan Milk Snake Lighting & Temperature Requirements

The pueblan milk snake regulates its own temperature. Therefore, during the day its habitat needs to be between 77 degrees Fahrenheit to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, the temperature drops down between 70 degrees Fahrenheit to 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The humidity level needs to be at 50 percent.

Pueblan Milk Snake Substrate

The substrate used is aspen shavings. It needs to be kept dry, so the humidity level stays down. Soil can also be used as a substrate. The bark is better though, as it gives the pueblan milk snake something to rub off its' skin.
