Cheetahs


Our Cheetahs

Scovill Zoo has three Cheetahs. The oldest is Jafari he is 15 years old. He came from a reserve in Africa with his brother who has since died. The other two boys were born in November of 2013, their names are Segosi and Kapenda, they came from another zoo in the US.

Cheetah Size

Cheetahs on average are 5 to 7 feet long and weigh 83 to 145 pounds. They are on average 2.5 inches tall. They have very muscular bodies that allow them to run as fast as 45-70 mph.

Cheetah Life Span

Cheetahs can live for 10 to 15 years in captivity. In the wild, few survive more than 4 to 6 years.

Cheetah Housing

They like dry open grassland. They sometimes like mountain areas. They only need to drink every 4-10 days. They also need plenty of area to roam and run.

Cheetah Food

Cheetahs are carnivorous. They eat about 6 to 8 pounds of food per day. They hunt for their food.
