African House Snakes

Our African House Snakes

At Scovill Zoo we have a male and a female. We currently don't have names. If you could name us, what would you choose?

African House Snake Size

As far as size, an adult male can grow between 24-30 inches and females grow 3-4 feet.

African House Snake Life Span

In captivity, an African House Snake can live to over 12 years old.

African House Snake Housing

Their name tells us where they live in the wild; these snakes live in people's homes and in much of the Continent of Africa. In captivity, they are usually kept in a 3 and 1/2 feet by 1 and 1/2 feet aquariums.

African House Snake Food

They like to eat rats and mice: small, medium and large, depending on the size of the snake.

African House Snake Lighting & Temperature Requirements

The temperature of this enclosure is 90 degrees on the warm end and 70 degrees on the cool end. They also need heating pads to keep this temperature.

African House Snake Substrate

The substrate is what they use to help shed their skin. It can be newspaper, paper towels, aspen shavings, and pine bark.
