European Glass Lizards


Our European Glass Lizards

We have four total. One is on exhibit and its name is Scar. We acquired Scar in 2014. Scar's gender is unknown. Scar is about 4 to 5 years old.

European Glass Lizard Size

They are a slender and legless lizard, that looks like a snake. The lizard is 22-24 inches long and weighs 11-21 pounds.

European Glass Lizard Life Span

In the wild they can live for 20 years, but in captivity they can live longer.

European Glass Lizard Housing

They need at least a 20 gallon aquarium with branches for hiding and climbing.  In the wild they live in dry environments, along rocky hillsides.

European Glass Lizard Food

They eat snails, small mammals, arthropods, crickets, roaches, mealworms, and earthworms. They need fresh water every day.


European Glass Lizard Lighting & Temperature Requirements

They need 70 to 85 degrees fahrenheit in the daytime. They don't need lights in their aquarium. At nighttime they need temperatures within the range of 60 to 75 degrees. They need 12 hours of light each day.

European Glass Lizard Substrate

In captivity they need potting soil, peat mass, sand, deep enough to burrow. In the wild they live in fields by stones and rocky places.
